Details at the end of this post on how to win a copy of Girl on the Run, along with a link to purchase it.

What a perfectly titled book. The young woman and heroine, Chessa Paxton, is accused of murdering her husband, and run she does, and run and run and run. Not only is she running from the detectives on the case, but from many of those who might be the real killer.

Chessa is the assistant-in-charge of special events for a casino at Lake Tahoe. The tale begins with the kick-off party for the three-day Happily Ever After convention fund raiser for “Making Art Out of Sad Kids,” fixing children’s damaged or deformed faces. For the big party, all the attendees dress as storybook characters, from Red Riding Hood to Captain Hook.book

Chessa, dressed as Sleeping Beauty, gets sick soon after the party begins. The next thing she knows, she wakes up beside her husband’s dead body. Before Detectives Marcus and Tallchief, sure of her guilt, can arrest her, she flees.

While on the run she remembers more of that dreadful night. She also remembers that she and her husband fought about a secret he was keeping. He wasn’t who she thought he was, which complicates her investigation to clear her name. Along the way, she begins to realize that some of her suspects are people she thought she could trust.

The many unusual characters, the beautiful Lake Tahoe setting, and a spunky and resourceful heroine, make this a must-read mystery. And best of all, there is a surprise ending.

I thoroughly enjoyed Girl on the Run, and recommend it to all who love a well-written mystery.
