WEEKEND RECAP
vs. Kenai River Brown Bears – Soldotna Sports Center – Soldotna, AK
FRIDAY, 3/4/2011: The Monsters struggled to find the back on the net on Friday, dropping the first game of a two-game set to the Kenai River Brown Bears by a final score of 7-1.
SATURDAY, 3/5/2011: Kenai River got the best of the Monsters for the second-straight game in the final game match-up by a score of 6-3.
WSHL Monsters News: The WSHL Monsters began Round 1 of the playoffs against defending-league champion Phoenix Polar Bears. The Monsters won Friday by a score of 4-2, but Phoenix rallied back on Saturday by a score of 7-5 to force the deciding-game 3 in the best-of-three series. Sunday was a defensively-sound game for both squads, but Phoenix was the only team to find the back of the net. They scored midway through the first period and never looked back. The Polar Bears also scored an empty-net goal to seal the 2-0 victory, the round, and eliminate the Monsters from the playoffs. The Phoenix Polar Bears will take on the Idaho Jr. Steelheads in Idaho this weekend in the WSHL conference final. The winner of the round will play the winner of the Mid-West conference for the Thorne Cup and will play in the Tier III Junior A National Championships in Rochester, Minnesota April 1-5, 2011.
