by Wayne Tilley
What happens when two down-on-their-luck Shakespearean actors try to swindle a rich old lady by posing as her long-lost nephews? Well, nothing too exciting. But when they find out that it’s not long-lost nephews, but long-lost nieces, the hilarity begins as the Kings Players present Ken Ludwig’s Leading Ladies.
In this hilarious comedy, directed by Wayne Tilley, the laughs keep coming as two male actors suddenly find themselves dressed in dresses in an attempt to fool a dying millionairess into leaving them her fortune. Add in an inept doctor, a greedy minister, and a beautiful niece and things get complicated very quickly. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long-lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces!
Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls in love with the old lady’s vivacious niece, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Then a mis-delivered letter points the Doc’s love interests towards Stephanie, who is really Jack, and who is in love with Audrey, but Audrey is dating Butch…come see how this all plays out at the Temple Theater in Hanford, California.
Show dates are March 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, & 17. This one will surely sell out, so get your tickets at kingsplayer.org. or by calling 559-584-7241.
