Robbie: A Mix of Terrier-tude and Sweetness

Robbie is a terrier mix who was picked up on the mean streets and sent to a shelter. Fortunately for Robbie, the shelter contacted Col. Potter Cairn Rescue, and he is now safely in a loving CP foster home.

The vet has estimated his age at about three years, and weighing in at twenty-three pounds, this happy boy is larger than the average Cairn. Laura, his foster mom, says he is a sweet boy who loves to meet people and other dogs. She walks him with her two dogs, and he does fairly well on a leash but needs more practice. So, she is working on both his house manners and his leash manners.

Robbie

Robbie being larger than most terriers and having longer legs, shows his terrier-tude by climbing on the counters and helping himself to treats. At first Laura used a baby gate to confine Robbie, but he easily surmounted that. She says he would like a fenced-in yard so he can run and have some freedom, but the fence should not be chain link. She thinks he would learn to climb that kind of fence.

Laura says Robbie may have lived in a house originally and either escaped or been dumped. He gets along well with her dogs and loves toys. He enjoys playing tug of war with the other dogs, but his favorite toy is his lamb chop that will go with him when he is adopted.

Robbie rides well in a car, but he needs to be secured not just for safety but because if left unsecured he will jump around.

This sweetie pie would do well with a family young enough to keep up with an active boy. He would be fine with other dogs and even children as long as they were old enough to know how to treat a dog. He would not do well in an apartment, and he wouldn’t co-exist well with a cat as Laura says he lunges at them when he meets them on his walks.

Laura says despite his impishness, he is eager to please. He really needs a forever home with his own person. A positive would be a person with some terrier experience who would understand his deviltry as just being a terrier. She notices that sometimes he seems sad and seems to know his foster home is merely a temporary stop on his life’s journey.
