Bullfrogs Bar & Grill: Music & More in Kingsburg

by Lorie Lewis Ham

Early this year Bullfrogs Bar and Grill in Kingsburg was featured in the Great Food Search, where the focus was on their awesome food. This week we are focusing on them as an entertainment venue. We took some time to chat with Justin Simmons, one half of the core management staff. He shares the responsibilities of a general manager with Kourtney Vigario. They took on these roles in September of 2015 when their current GM left to pursue his own business.

The Starving Artists Bistro: Part Two – Nourishing the Artist’s Soul

by Laura Sidsworth

Nykole Sullivan and her mom Terry Hibbs put together a bistro where artists can express their passion. Nykole's husband Bob says that their bistro is "a family restaurant first, but you come here for the music." All fourteen indoor tables are in line with the stage as a focal point. New speakers and a stage that fits over the outside fountain in the patio area brings the entertainment outdoors as well.

Nourishing Diner’s and Artist’s Souls: The Starving Artists Bistro

by Laura Sidsworth

On my first visit to the Starving Artists Bistro on a fall night it was so crowded that we could only score a sidewalk patio table. There were heaters, but my niece Kat was still chilly. One of the proprietors, Bob Sullivan, noticed this and brought her a blanket which he said they keep clean and on hand for such occasions. She then asked for a hot chocolate...and though not on the menu, Bob had his bartender craft her one.

The San Joaquin Valley: A Great Place For Live Music

by Lorie Lewis Ham

Not only is this area blessed with a lot of great theatre, but we have several great clubs and concert venues as well. Over time we plan to cover more of them, but this week we thought we would touch base with some of those we have already covered in the past--Kuppajoe All Ages Nightclub, Victory Cafe, Fulton 55, and The Cellar Door--to do an overview of what each one has to offer, and see if anything new has happened since we profiled them.

They also host movie screenings, theme parties, fashion shows, and art exhibits.

Eureka Burger: Restuarant & Concert Venue

by James Garcia Jr.

If you have spent any time on Facebook at all, you may have seen some promotion from a restaurant in Fresno called Eureka Burger. Quite amusingly, they post a definition for themselves on their website. It displays the word Eureka, offers the pronunciation and adds that it is an interjection. It goes on to list the word’s definition: 1) Used as an exclamation of triumph at a discovery; 2) The enlightening burger experience, accompanied by fresh ingredients, craft beer and rock n’ roll. Recently, my wife and I visited the establishment and we can report that it is exactly this.

Neighborhood Thrift & Cafe – Thrift Store, Concert Venue & Much More!

by Tom Sims & Lorie Lewis Ham

Anthony “Ap” Armour, Bryan Feil, and Garth Richards cannot tell you who “runs” Neighborhood Thrift. What runs the organization is a sense of mission and a vision for what the ministry can and does accomplish in people’s lives. They describe themselves as a “triumvirate,” formed around a common purpose to launch a bold venture in the heart of the Tower District of Fresno.
