In this bucolic setting Pru is also working alongside her brother Simon, who only recently reunited with his American sister. Built-up tensions still simmer between them, as Pru can’t help but feel guilty for being raised by the parents who gave Simon up for adoption. Family ties and loyalty are at the core of Pru’s heart, and as a result she doesn’t hesitate to welcome her husband’s nephew Orlando, sent to visit due to the teenager’s Internet shenanigans.

After some very traumatic events in their lives, Montana University art professor and environmental activist Trout Brooke is happy to spend some recovery time with her mother Mary Beth during the December holiday break. Joining them is Tommy Sharpe, a twelve year-old girl who was kidnapped and molested, and who desperately needed some vacation recovery time. The Sharpe family believes that Brooke is uniquely qualified to provide empathy to the charming and precocious girl since Brooke was responsible for Tommy’s rescue, and was also a previous victim of sexual assault.

The story centers around the kidnapping of a concert pianist who disappears before the rehearsal of an important concert. The author is an artist of words when it comes to showing the anguish Ally, the kidnapped woman, experiences. Set in Australia, the different word usage is an added plus as are the descriptions of the unfamiliar places.
