Spring Awakening: Downtown Fresno’s Scarab Creative Arts

As the weather warms and the spring arts season kicks into full bloom, Scarab Creative Arts in downtown Fresno welcomes the return of ArtHop after its yearlong hiatus, offering up a variety of art exhibitions, classes, and other events, in addition to the ArtHop’s first-Thursday receptions. Kings River Life reached out to Scarab’s founder Maggie Boyajian Courtis to get the scoop on what the one-of-a-kind creative space has in store for Fresno’s bustling arts community.

2019 Juried Student Exhibition At COS Art Gallery

Over the past several weeks, students and art department faculty have been buzzing over the COS Art Gallery’s last exhibition of the spring semester, our 2019 Juried Student Exhibition. This exhibition will feature art created by COS art students in a number of different categories in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. The exhibition is free and open to the public starting Tuesday, April 9 and runs through Friday, May 3. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 5-7 p.m., with the awards ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m.

A Dream Come True: A Sense of Place Fine Art Gallery

It all began with a dream—Ginny Burdick had always wanted to open a fine art gallery, and even though she came from the corporate world, she had always been an artist. 1821 Gallery & Studios Flourishes in Fresno’s Cultural Arts District

Five years after its debut, the 1821 Gallery & Studios flourishes in Fresno’s Cultural Arts District, an ArtHop mainstay featuring both a commercial gallery and four working artists’ studios. Founder and owner Bruce Kalkowski, who designed and constructed the gallery, sat down with Kings River Life to discuss the Gallery, how it got its start, and the importance of art in the community.

East/West: A Survey of Contemporary Printmaking

The COS Art Gallery has teamed up with Arts Visalia to bring you East/West: A Survey in Contemporary Printmaking, a portfolio of prints that showcases 100 of the most prominent printmakers/educators representing every state in the USA. The COS Art Gallery will have the Western half of the portfolio on display, while Arts Visalia will have the Eastern half of the portfolio displayed. The show at COS Art Gallery will run from September 1 through 25 with a reception on Wednesday, September 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the COS Art Gallery.

Familia Featuring works by Francisco Alonzo At COS

The COS Art Gallery is back with a new schedule of exhibitions. Our first one of the Fall 2014 semester is Familia featuring works by COS art faculty member Francisco Alonzo. The show, which features large installations and paintings, will run August 26 through September 19 with an opening reception on Thursday, August 28 from 5-7 p.m. in the COS Art Gallery.

Even though it is more known for its fruit than the arts, Reedley definitely has its fair share of artistic talent. Last year a new art gallery opened in downtown Reedley to showcase the talent of two artists--long time painter Paul Buxman, and photographer Andrew Shinn. We took a moment recently to chat with Andrew about the gallery. They hope to have an official grand opening this summer.
