The COS Art Department is eagerly preparing our last gallery show of the spring 2013 semester, The Annual Juried Student Exhibition. Throughout the school year, the COS Art Gallery features artwork created by professional artists from California and the United States. However, from April 16 – May 10 COS students will have the opportunity to get their feet wet with what it is like to have their work featured on the gallery walls.

As the season begins to change from the summer heat to the fall brisk and chilly mornings, I begin to look forward to exploring the shorter days among the valley oaks that line many of our city streets and creeks instead of escaping to the high county of the Sierra, to avoid the high summer temperatures at every opportunity. And in this changing season, I can also finally attend to the neglected vegetable garden in my backyard and decide which vegetables to plant before the holiday season gets underway.

Have you ever wondered who teaches in the COS Art Department and do they still make art? The answer is: Yes they do! As a way to introduce the students and the public to their “other job,” the COS Art Gallery will be kicking off the fall semester with Recent Works: COS Art Department Faculty Show. The exhibition will run from August 28 to September 21. The opening reception is on Thursday, August 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. Come out; the faculty will be in attendance.
