This week we chatted with local actor Sean Hopper who has been the voice of several of our episodes. Mysteryrat's Maze features mystery short stories and first chapters read by local actors.
This has been a difficult time for everyone. Not only are businesses closed that aren’t essential, but all events have been canceled as well. Many of those events have found creative ways to happen virtually, providing mostly free entertainment for those of us stuck in our homes. Community theatre has been hit particularly hard, canceling their shows has not only been disappointing for everyone, but they also don’t have those ticket sales coming in to help pay the bills.
Just before Fresno’s shelter-in-place order began, Upsilon V Productions was in the midst of casting their first feature film, Lake. The search was on for the four main roles, and after casting actors for two of them (Spoiler alert: one of them is me!), they were forced to put in-person casting on hold. The current pandemic has thrown a wrench in…basically everything, and with most of the country ordered to stay at home, it’s difficult (See also: impossible) to make a film.

This week we have another fun Q and A with a local actor. Henry Montelongo was born and raised in Fresno and is currently playing Watson for the second time in Good Company Players production of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, on stage through February 23.
The Selma Arts Center will be presenting Cabaret starting on November 8 and local actor Meg Clark will be playing the role of Sally Bowles. Meg was born in Fresno but grew up in Reedley and Dinuba. We took a moment to chat with her about her life, acting, and about taking on this role.
Every year, hopefuls from around the country move to Hollywood to fulfill their dreams of achieving acting stardom. The glitz and glamour of the art form is displayed at award shows, on social media, and in magazines. Some make it and some don’t, but that doesn’t stop people from giving Tinseltown a try.
Local filming has been consistently growing in the Central Valley for the past decade, and Fresno is no exception. With many independent projects gaining momentum, there is one in particular that stands out – John Neptune and the Sky Palace King, a retro sci-fi filmed in black and white and the story of a young man who must learn to think for himself whilst fighting a war for a leader he believes in, but who soon realizes that there are many shades of gray in what he thought was a black and white universe.
The King and I comes through Fresno next week for two performances at the William Saroyan Theatre in Fresno. We were able to chat recently with one of its stars, Angela Baumgardner, who plays Anna Leonowens.
