Marcel came into Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue Network from a puppy mill. At the time, he was about four years old.
He is now fourteen and has been in several adoptive homes. His last adopter was an elderly woman who simply got to the point where she was no longer able to care for Marcel.
Layka, a little mixed-breed Terrier, came into Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue Network after spending time as a stray on the mean streets of a poor section of Nashville, Tennessee. Very scrawny and obviously ill, Layka had chronic, severe ear infections and a coat in very poor condition. She was also blind and deaf. In addition, she had an obvious limp.
When Bartlett was turned into the busy New York City shelter, the shelter workers thought he looked like a Cairn. When the shelter called Col. Potter Cairn Rescue, a rescue volunteer came to take the little dog. She knew right away the dog was not a Cairn, but with only six hours left before he would be euthanized, she couldn’t leave him.
One fateful morning Josie, a foster parent of Westie Central Rescue, opened her email as usual, but this time it proved to be an action that was to change her life.
Julie is an in-take coordinator for Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue. As such, part of her responsibilities include maintaining contact with a number of area shelters for Cairns and Cairn mixes that need rescue. When Julie received an email from her contact at a New York City shelter, it had some heartbreaking photo attachments.
Sydney is a friendly Scottie mix that is about eight years old. He was sent to a New York City shelter, and they contacted NY/NJ Scottie Rescue. Sydney had a number of health issues including an unidentified lump on his throat. He also needed dental work, and since the rescue has no health records, he was given a thorough vet check-up plus blood work.
Cedric came into NY/NJ Scottie Rescue from a busy New York City shelter. This Scottie/Schnauzer mix is about eight years old and weighs twenty pounds. He has no apparent health issues except for kennel cough, which is common with dogs that are pulled from shelters and for which he is being treated.
Louis is a Westie/Terrier mix surrendered to Westie & Scottie Rescue of Houston by an owner who was no longer able to care for him. He had thin hair and scaly, red spots on his skin when he arrived at the rescue. Linda, his foster mom, gave him a medicated bath immediately and then took him to the vet. The vet diagnosed him with dry eye and ear problems. Louis was put on antibiotics and eye drops.
Malcolm, a gentle boy with a mixed background, was found on the street as a stray. When Col Potter took him in and had him vetted, an I.D. chip was found and his owners were contacted. Sadly, they declined to take him. Fortunately for him, he was rescued by Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue and put into the capable hands of Julie, an experienced foster parent.
Moreno Blue Too found herself in a California shelter. Because she was very shy and nervous, the shelter felt she was not a good candidate for adoption. Thinking she was at least part Cairn, the shelter called Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue.
