While the snow melts in parts of the country and St. Patrick’s Day, Daylight Savings Time, and the first day of spring are around the corner, don’t even think about giving up books for Lent! Here’s the start of a new series by a new author. There are also farms, food, and the luck of the Irish in the books coming out this month. Enjoy!
Author Amy Pershing gives us A Side of Murder in her first Cape Cod Foodie series. Samantha Barnes leaves NYC when she inherits a dilapidated house in Cape Cod that comes with an enormous puppy. She lands a job writing restaurant reviews, but her boss is very bossy and the harbor master was her first love. She’s about to review a restaurant with great seafood chowder when a body is found in the pond. By stirring the pot, is Samantha creating a recipe for her own murder?
It’s the Case of the Shady Shamrock when a mysterious package shows up on Zack and Jillian Anderson’s doorstep in Pomme Valley, Oregon. It’s an old silver chest with Celtic markings, but no way to open it. The pair figures it’s a decorative item until people start coming after it. Maybe it contains something of great value. The Anderson’s, along with Corgis Sherlock and Watson, are on the case, where they discover it’s part of an unsolved theft in Ireland a century ago. Jeffrey Poole continues the Corgi Case Files series with book twelve.
What’s an Irish Parade without a murder? Returning to Maine after burying her father-in-law in Florida, Lucy Stone finds her journalism job at the Pennysaver in jeopardy. A young and ambitious man turns down the assignment to cover the St. Patrick’s Day parade and Lucy is stuck with the story. When her rival is charged with sending a correctional officer to his fiery death, Lucy doesn’t believe it. However, she’ll need a four-leaf clover to solve the mystery. Irish Parade Murder is the twenty-seventh outing by Leslie Meier.
Also set in Maine is Details in the Document, a new Inn at Holiday Bay mystery by Kathi Daley. In book fourteen, Abby Sullivan discovers the seaside mansion she bought sight unseen comes with a small plot of land. The parcel is basically worthless and for more than a century nobody paid attention. Until now.
Hobby farmer Ivy Galloway opens her Runaway Farm as a refuge for animals. This time it’s adorable, if hyperactive, goats. Their high jinx are amusing, but there’s nothing funny about people dying unexpectedly in the quaint village of Clover Grove. With her clever Border Collie, Keats, and her dream team of sleuths, Ivy’s ready to get her hands dirty and solve the mystery. Don’t Rock the Goat is the eighth Bought-the-Farm mystery by Ellen Riggs.
More goats and Collies show up in Cindy Bell’s latest. Apparently, there’s Greed in Little Leaf Creek. Up to now Cassie Alberta has been enjoying the small town, her farmhouse, and even her grumpy ex-cop neighbor. But a murder at the local garden center changes all that. Now she and her neighbor must dig up clues and uncover more than they bargained for. This is the sixth Little Leaf Creek book which includes a recipe for Lemon Bars.
More recipes, as well as knitting tips, are included book seven of the Knit & Nibble mysteries by Peggy Ehrhart. In Arborville, New Jersey, community gardens overflow with seasonal veggies and herbs. A farm-to-table enthusiast who was writing a cookbook is found her plot, strangled by a knitting needle. Pamela Paterson and neighbor Bettina have to weave clues together to find out who did the Knitty Gritty Murder.
Hungry for more? When a fourteen-year-old girl goes missing, members of the town in California’s wine country comb the countryside. Calla Lily, along with people from the Calla Lily Vineyards, Winery, and Theater, join the search. Calla’s dog Marlowe finds a girl injured, traumatized, and unable to talk, but it’s The Vintner’s Other Daughter. Now Lily and her friends have two mysteries to solve. Author Anna Celeste Burke includes recipes in the fourth Calla Lily Mystery Series.
