Hello, my name is Emily Rose and I give ghost tours in Copper Ridge.

I actually moved to town not too long ago, following the death of my mother and the crash and burn of my long-time relationship. Some months before I had the opportunity to visit Copper Ridge and I realized it was steeped in history. Then I met Mrs. Smithers, a loving woman in town who runs the Historical Society. She provided me some information regarding some buildings in town that have, shall we say, unexplainable events from time to time.

Let’s start with the Gage Hotel. It was built in the late 1800s by Mr. Horatio Randolph Gage. A few years after the hotel opened, a man suffered a horrendous injury on the road right outside of the hotel when he was run down by a team of runaway horses. Despite the best effort of the doctors, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Ever since then his ghost has been seen wandering around the hotel. He appears to be searching for someone. As it turns out, he is searching for his bride. They were due to be married that very day. What I don’t admit on my tours is, I’ve actually seen him, too, just wandering around the hotel. Truth be told, it’s kind of creepy. I might give ghost tours, but I never actually believed in ghosts until recently.

My first ghostly experience actually occurred at a holiday ghost party which took place at the local B&B. The B&B was custom built by the town banker. It seems like him and his wife like to host elaborate parties. Recently the B&B was purchased and restored. Now guests have report hearing the sounds of a party, including people talking and laughing. During my party, an old rocking horse started rocking in the old nursery all by itself. When I got my group back downstairs, I heard the sounds of laughter. No one else heard it but me. Maybe I should say, no one heard it but me and the psychic I had invited to the party. Later on, that evening, the psychic told me I had “the gift.” Trust me, I denied this for a long time. But she was right. It was hard to ignore after I saw the ghost of Mr. Gage anyway.

Then there is Evergreen Manor. It is a large four-story Victorian Manor, that used to be the home of a railroad tycoon, Mr. Armstrong. When a flu epidemic swept through town, it took the life of Mr. Armstrong, his twin girls and infant son. Mrs. Armstrong was never the same again. Stories say lights can be seen in the house. It’s said to be the ghost of Mrs. Armstrong looking for her beloved family.

These are just a few of the ghost stories involving the town of Copper Ridge. It’s quite the town I’ve settled in. Hope you enjoyed hearing about them.

I live in the Houston area with my husband of forty-three years. We have one dog Oy, and four cats. I retired from nursing in 2019. Now I am enjoying writing full time. Actually, writing was something I never thought I could do. My husband was the person who first encouraged me to try my hand at writing cozy mysteries. I have since discovered, that I really enjoy writing and the process of creating characters and their stories.
When I’m not writing I enjoy spending time with my kids and grandkids. I love reading, thrillers, true crime, traditional mystery, and cozy mystery books. Besides reading, my hobbies include working on jigsaw puzzles, playing sudoku and running, which I didn’t start doing until my early 50s. This just goes to show you, that it’s never too late to start a new hobby. Marathon #8 is coming up shortly. ????????
