I enjoyed watching the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards earlier this month. I love these shows – my husband does not. He complains that the new singers aren’t really “country.” I enjoy the new singers, and prefer them over the likes of – well, I don’t want to name names. It’s all good – hubby has his likes, and I have mine. To me, watching the performances on the award shows is like going to a free concert with lots of great singers. Mysteries and country music help me cope with life’s stresses (and we sure have plenty of those this year). The good news is that I’ve had more time lately to enjoy reading mysteries and adding favorite songs to my play list.

My enjoyment of country music spurred me to add a country music concert to the plot of The Black Cat Breaks A Mirror. So up-and-coming country star Colt Jamison and his entourage are headed to Lavender for a concert – and, of course, trouble ensues. I wanted Sabrina’s brother Nick and her nephews, Matt and Adam, to come for a visit. Nick had only been mentioned once in the series, and I felt readers needed to meet him. I also wanted Nick and the boys to meet Hitchcock, Sabrina’s cat, and realize that he really isn’t bad luck no matter how many people like to talk about the bad luck cat legend. Read on to learn more about The Black Cat Breaks A Mirror.

Mystery novelist Sabrina Tate and her cat Hitchcock are headed to a country music show, but there’s a killer on the loose who plans to end the evening with a deadly Texas two-step . . .

As the summer tourist season draws to a close in Lavender, Texas, Sabrina has invited her brother and nephews for the highly anticipated concert of Colt Jamison, whose hit song “Broken Mirror” is rising to the top of the Nashville charts. But their stay begins on a sour note when one of the boys stumbles upon the dead body of Jamison’s former public relations manager—a man who’d long ago burned his bridges in town, leaving no shortage of suspects in the murder.

As Sabrina is reluctantly drawn into the investigation, she’s confronted with an overzealous Jamison fan club president who may be up to her neck in criminal activities, a country singer who may be harboring more than a few of his own dark secrets, and someone leaving shards of broken mirrors scattered all over town. Just as Sabrina narrows the list of suspects and closes in on the culprit, she realizes that seven years of bad luck may be the least of her worries . . .

  1. I’m not a fan of the “new” country
style. Still love the lyrics of
    Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash.

  2. I’m a fan of the old country music, the stuff my parents listened to in the 60’s and 70’s. I would love to read this and catch up with Hitchcock!

  5. I’m picking up some of the older titles in this series from Barnes & Noble tomorrow. I loved the first one, so I ordered more. The country music theme of The Black Cat Breaks A Mirror is right up my alley. I like a lot of the classic country artists and some of the newcomers too, but my favorite of all is Dierks Bentley. Coincidentally, the first time I heard him on the radio was when I was in New Braunfels, Texas. I love the charm if the hill country, and your series takes me there in my imagination.
