Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win a copy of Here Comes Santa Paws, a link to purchase it from Amazon, and an indie bookstore where a portion of the sale goes to help support KRL.

Melanie Travis has a complicated family life. Most people do, but her family takes it to extremes. She has an ex-husband and a shared pre-teen son. Ex has married Claire who is now one of Melanie’s best friends. Melanie has Sam, her husband of a few years. They share Kevin, a toddler who is a champion at getting into messes. Aunt Peg, well, she’s of the opinion she knows everything and everyone which is pretty much true. She also lets others know they are lacking. Tact is not her strong suit. Of course, no home is complete without a dog. Melanie has six. Five are black standard poodles, and then there’s Bud. He’s a little dog but no one’s had the heart to tell him so. He loves food, Kevin, and finding his own entertainment—he has no remorse, even when caught red-pawed. mystery

Claire started her own business, personal shopper for the time challenged. Since Christmas isn’t that far away, she’s running to keep up. Part of her service is to buy, wrap, and deliver gifts to the client’s home. Her newest client is Lila. Delivering gifts is fun. Finding Lila dead, is not.

Claire calls Melanie for help, but as soon as police are done questioning Claire, she’s in her car and gone, leaving Melanie wondering what just happened.

Lila lived in the dilapidated gatehouse of the Mannerly estate. It’s rumored the owner does live in the mansion but no one’s seen her in many years. Lila had a good job so why she wasn’t living in an upscale condo instead? The more Melanie learns about Lila, the more she knows where Lila lived wasn’t the puzzling part of her life. It was, how had Lila lived this long?

This is book twenty-four in the long running series. Melanie’s life has changed drastically from the first books, when she tutored rich kids and her son Davey was in grade school. Melanie remains calm in any situation, a lesson that’s helpful when dealing with two kids, Aunt Peg, six dogs, and murders. For glimpses behind the scenes of dog shows, murder investigations, family life, and good relationships, this is a series readers will love. Start with this book and then ask your personal shopper to put the rest of the series under the Christmas tree this year. Read it now, and when egg nog hits the stores, read it again.

  7. I read the first two books and I am onto the third. They are great quick reads and sounds like you are right in a conversation with the characters. I have a standard poodle and they all have involved the breed. She puts facts into the story about the show dog world, poodles and other dog info that I didn’t know before.
