September was an exciting month for video games. New gaming platforms were announced and highly-anticipated game sequels were released. Everything ramping towards the big holiday video game releases.
Catherine: Full Body was released on September 3 for PS4 and Xbox One. Full Body is a remake of the original game released in 2011. The original and the remake are a romantic, puzzle, horror game in an anime style. The remake adds a third love interest for Catherine and hours of new content. Fans of the original game are in love with the remake and pushing for a sequel.
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered was released on September 3 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch. Popular review sites such as Kotaku call the remastered version the “best version ever.” The graphics are majorly improved, and there is hours of added content.
Gears of War 5 was released on September 10 for Xbox One and PC. This game immediately follows the events of the previous game. The game features online and split screen co-op as well as the typical single player. Fans and critics alike are having a blast with the co-op gameplay and adore the more intricate storyline than previous iterations in the series.
Borderlands 3 was released on September 13 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. The third iteration takes place several years after the previous game. Hyperion has been destroyed and vaults on several other planets have been discovered. Characters from Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands make great appearances in the game. Critics have been wary of the crass humor and repetitive gameplay but eventually they warmed up to the deeper story and new gameplay elements added through co-op and online gameplay.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was released on September 20 for the Switch. Link’s Awakening is a remake of the 1993 gameboy game. The graphics are reminiscent of the original game but still feels fresh and modern. Critics and fans list as one of the top three Zelda games of all time.
Apple announced during their Apple event a couple weeks ago that Apple products would soon have their own game subscription service called Apple Arcade for $4.99 a month. The service released on September 19.
