Lucy Binger has about a week left to live—as a single woman. Then she’ll marry Matt. Her friends decide she needs a pre-wedding bucket list, all the things she’d like to do before tying the knot. A girls-only weekend fits the bill.
Suzanne loves planning these things, and she has a friend, Amy, who lives in an upscale community. If Maggie will give a workshop about knitting, they are welcome to visit. Maggie owns the Black Sheep Knitting Shop so teaching a class won’t be a hardship. 
The class is going well until an argument erupts in the next room where men are playing high stakes poker. It seems Dr. Julian Morton wins toward the end of the evening each time they play and when there’s a large pot at stake. He’s accused of cheating by Derek Pullman who the doctor says owes him more than $10,000. Derek upends the poker table and storms from the room.
Talking to Amy, the group finds Morton didn’t have many, if any, fans. He stirs up anger and controversy wherever he goes and seems to enjoy it. Even Amy’s husband Rob has reason to hate the man.
When Morton is found dead at the bottom of the cliff, it’s first thought that in the fog, he got too close to the edge while taking a break during his morning run. The rocks can be slippery and while there’s a fence, it’s not all that high. It could be an accident. The police determine it’s murder and suspects are many. He has an ex-wife, a current wife who wants out of the marriage, Derek, a son who hates him, people he’s cheated, and more.
The knitters are determined to enjoy their weekend, but when Rob is under suspicion of killing the doctor, they start to ask questions to find out who was behind the death.
The book doesn’t focus solely on knitting. The friendship between the women is a strong one but allows for each to have her own interests, enjoyed and shared (or not) by the others. Suzanne loves to cook, Amy too, Lucy and Dana bike ride or do yoga while Phoebe takes photos of wildlife. For a nice weekend away at a luxury location, Lucy and friends surely provide the excitement. This is a new to me series but I’m a knitter and I would love to read a mystery where knitting is part of the book’s theme. Merry Christmas to All!
My mother owned a knitting store when I was very young (4-6yrs old). That closed when she filed for divorce and we moved to Miami so she could actually get one. Skip ahead to when I’m 15 or so and she’s back to teaching knitting and other crafts at a place in Mill Basin Brooklyn. She finally ended up teaching art at a local Jr. College. Everything from charcoal sketching to using an acetylene torch to work in metal.
So you might say I had to pick up a few things over the years. I’d love to add this new book to my home library in the cozy/crafts mysteries.
