There’s not a lot to say, beyond the obvious, about Reedley College’s 58-7 loss to Fresno City College this past Saturday night at Radcliffe Stadium.reedleycollege

The Tigers were dominated in every aspect of the game; from defense and offense, to placekicking and punting. The numbers are ugly, so there’s no need to repeat them. The Tigers lost to a superior opponent.

Is there really anything so wrong about that? We have two football programs that are currently on two completely different levels. The Rams are a proven force, playing in the top division in JC football. Their coach, Tony Caviglia, has built a powerhouse program and has sustained it over seventeen seasons. On the other hand, the Tigers are rebuilding. They have a dynamic young coach in Eric Marty, who had barely two months to put a team together. The only reason this game is played is because it is a traditional rivalry. It’s going to be a few years before the Tigers are ready to give the Rams a fair fight.

So let’s keep things in perspective, Tiger fans. At 0-5, the Tigers still have a chance to win a few games once conference play starts on October 15. But as I have said over and over again, it’s going to take time. Coach Marty is the right man for the job, and with the support of the school and the fans, we’ll see good results sooner, rather than later.
