Sarah Booth Delaney has been through the wringer. She’s recovering, as are her friends, but it’s taking longer than any of them would like. A nice long rest would help, but it’s not going to happen anytime soon.

When the doorbell rings in the middle of the night, she’s astonished to find a baby in a basket. It’s bitter cold out, but whoever left the baby did wait to make sure she answered the door before driving away. Sarah Booth would like to have kids but maybe not just this way. Her resident ghost, Jitty, harps about ticking biological clocks to the point of annoyance and beyond. Jitty wants an heir at Dahlia House.

After moving back home, Sarah Booth found herself a new business—private detective, mostly finding things and people. She’s good at it with the help of her partner, Tinkie. Now the job is to find the mother of the baby. There was an awful lot of blood on the porch, so whoever left her was hurt bad. book

The baby provides a clue as to how her mama might be found. Tinkie volunteers to take care of the little girl in the meantime. That’s both a good thing and a bad thing. The baby won’t be put into foster care, but will Tinkie be able to give her up when the time comes?

The search takes Sarah Booth to Memphis, Nashville’s music scene, and to a high school where the mean girls still rule. To make matters worse, Sarah Booth’s enemy, Gertrude, has jumped bail and is on the loose, headed toward Dahlia House. She’s vowed to kill Sarah Booth and nothing is going to stop her. Gertrude’s gone way beyond nut case.

This is book sixteen in the Southern series, all with Bones in the titles. Sarah Booth is growing with each case she takes. She has three men interested in her, all good, kind, and loving men. Her friendships are strong. She doesn’t usually take risks but when necessary, she’s willing to jump into the fray. Don’t expect any recipes to be included. She’s many things, but a good cook is not one of them.

Jitty adds a quirk to the story, Sweetie Pie the hound and Pluto the cat are an integral part of the cast of characters, and Tinkie is a force to be reckoned with. Readers can jump in with this book and still be able to follow the relationships, but be warned, you’ll have such a good time, you’ll want to go back to the beginning and read them all.
