The Reedley College Tigers continued their trend of getting off to a slow start, but they pushed the accelerator pedal right before halftime and never let up, scoring the game’s final 45 points, as they dominated the Cabrillo College Seahawks 45-10 Saturday night in Reedley.
The visitors from Aptos scored the first ten points of the game, but the Tigers scored on a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Joshua Allen with 52 seconds left in the half to seize the momentum.
The Tigers never let up in the second half, blowing the game open with four third quarter TD passes from Allen – two to Caleb Horton, and one each to Raphael Aroujo-Lopes and Justin Neal. It was a dominant performance by an offense that has shown its explosiveness several times this season, but not to the extent they showed Saturday as they improved their season record to 3-4.
The Tiger defense, which has taken a beating this season, was also exceptional, holding Cabrillo’s running game to 31 total yards. The defensive secondary also rebounded after a couple of poor performances to hold the Seahawk passing game in check.
The Tigers are now in position to seriously contend for a post season bowl game. It’ll most likely take three more wins, starting with a road game this Saturday afternoon at one against the Merced Blue Devils.
