Fairy tales are something everyone loves. They bring you hope and make you believe in true love. Fairy tale themed television has become very popular lately and I think Once Upon A Time does it the best. It mixes fairy tales with the real world.
The show starts off with Snow White and Prince Charming being attacked by the evil queen, Regina, at their own wedding. To get revenge on Snow White for ruining her life, she puts a curse upon all of the Enchanted Forest, which is where all of the fairy tales are from. The curse is that they will all forget who they are and be put into this real world town that the Queen created called Storybrooke in Maine, where the Queen is the Mayor.
Every day is exactly the same and no one ages because time stands still– that is until Emma Swan, a bail bondsman, comes to Storybrooke when her son Henry invites her there. Emma starts to cause everything to change in Storybrooke, which puts Regina in a bit of a bind. Watch the show to know more!
Once Upon A Time is one of my favorite shows. The stories are dark and brilliantly written, the characters well-developed and are not always as they seem. Good guys sometimes do bad things and villains sometimes have a heart. Rumplestiltskin, played by Robert Carlyle, is my favorite character. He helps Regina with the curse but has a heart sometimes. I love misunderstood villains; they are my weakness.
The show makes you realize that even fairy tales aren’t perfect and that when put into the real world they have the same problems we do. Putting fairy tales into the real world was a brilliant idea on their part. I love the show for many reasons, but the biggest is because the characters feel so real. You feel like they are your friends and that you can relate to them.
Once Upon A Time is in the middle of its third season and airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC. It returns with new episodes on March 9.
