Welcome to a new column for KRL. Once a month I will announce upcoming mysteries by some of your favorite authors and introduce you to new authors on the scene. I want to help you fill your TBR pile and Kindle with great reads!
Left Coast Crime Monterey is happening March 20-23. Dubbed “Calamari Crime,” I’m giving you a preview of authors who will be attending this year.
Peri O’Shaughnessy is the combined writing talents of sisters Pamela and Mary O’Shaughnessy. In the 13th Nina Reilly series, the South Lake Tahoe lawyer has sociopath she defended back in her life. The young man fled to Brazil to escape extradition. Now he’s trying to con his dad when the family ski resort is up for sale. Dreams of the Dead come back to haunt.
I’m awarding the Strangest Nom de Plume Award to Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter for coming up with Sparkle Abbey. The AKA is the combined names of their two dogs. Appropriately, they write The Pampered Pet Mysteries. Yip/Tuck, the forth in the series, has Texas beauty queens Carol and Mel dealing with misbehaving dog and murder in swanky Laguna Beach. Must get your paws on this one!
Jill Amadio is the author of Digging Too Deep, featuring ex-pat Tosca Trevant. The gossip columnist was banished from England after creating a scandal at Buckingham Palace (ouch!). Now in California, she discovers human remains in a professor’s rock garden. It takes an ex-secret service agent and Tosca to decode a musical message to catch a serial killer. Get your hands dirty with this fun mystery.
Canadian mysteries make a strong showing at LCC this year. Lou Allin proves Twilight Is Not Good For Maidens in her third Holly Martin mystery. Set on beautiful Vancouver Island in Canada, the Royal Canadian Police deal with the deaths of two young women and the rape of another. Though low on the totem pole, Holly is determined to conduct her own investigation. To see gorgeous photos of the island, go to Lou’s website: www.louallin.com
Another ex-pat is Cait Morgan, a short, plus-size, bossy Welsh woman relocated to British Columbia. In The Corpse With the Golden Nose, our foodie snoop can’t resist a trip to Canadian wine country when a famous vintner is found dead. This is the second book in the series for author Cathy Ace.
The grape of wrath continues in Art, Wine and Bullets, and Vinnie Hansen’s sixth Carol Sabala mystery. When baker/private eye Carol finds a strangled body of a gallery owner in Watsonville, California. it’s a chance to prove her skills as a PI. Instead, the case turns into a nightmare.
Penny Lively is Seeing Red, in Carlene O’Neil’s Dying to Be Red series. Going back to the family winery, Penny gets involved with the prestigious Martinelli Winery when a body is found in the grape crusher. The author is a certified wine specialist in California. Cheers to this new series!

Thanks for this! Great info.
You are amazing Sunny–outstanding and am so proud of you
Cool read! Love the summaries of all the books, and the insights into the names some of them choose. I’m not sure I could use Boy Bailey for my nom de plume, nor Puff Specks, but Sparkle Abbey has a nice ring to it. What a great time LCC is going to be this year!
Thanks so much for the mention! 🙂
Thank you for featuring my book! I’m spreading the word.
