Mell’s Mutts helps dogs that are in danger at shelters and sometimes dogs cross our paths and we work day and night to ensure their safety and get them to safety. This is the story of two dogs that were living alongside a train track for weeks and possibly even months.
We were contacted by a good Samaritan who had been feeding a large red dog every day on her way to work. She was trying to gain his trust and was desperate for help. One of our team members started going to feed him as well.
Some days the big dog would be patiently waiting and other days he was nowhere to be found. This concerned our team member who decided to take a walk down the railroad track one day in search of him. She walked about half a mile back to the very end where there to her surprise was the big red dog and he was not alone. He had a little white Chihuahua by his side. It was an absolute precious thing to see this huge dog taking care of his little buddy. There were several items of trash that he had obviously taken down the tracks to feed his buddy. It was very touching the love they had for each other.
We went back day after day, sometimes twice a day to feed them. Each time making that half a mile hike back and then forth. It took weeks to earn their trust, but one day it finally happened! We got them both! We couldn’t be happier and neither could they. Their relief was written on their face, and it was amazing.
We have named these two Biggie and Smalls. We have no idea how they ended up on those train tracks but they are now safe. They are both neutered and vaccinated now and are looking for a forever home. They are very sweet, loving and so appreciative. They also love other dogs.
