As it is almost Christmas time, many video games are being released. The gaming industry loves to take full advantage of the holiday season by releasing many games for people to buy as gifts. Some very popular titles were released this month.
On November 3, Call of Duty: WWII was released. This is the eighteenth installment in the Call of Duty series published by Activision. The game is finally brought back to the World War II setting, a setting not used in the games since 2008 in Call of Duty: World at War. Critics and fans are praising the detailed storyline (not common in all of the games in this series) and the immersive WWII atmosphere. It has been criticized however for its similarity to the previous World War II game.
The popular game Doom released on the Nintendo Switch November 10, the first time the game has ever been released on a Nintendo console. The game’s graphics have been updated for this version and critics have been praising its new, clean look.
The game series Mario Party is a personal favorite of mine. I can remember the anticipation of going over to my aunt and uncle’s house to play those games on their Nintendo Gamecube. On November 10, Mario Party: The Top 100 was released. The game features the top 100 mini-game from all of the Mario Party games. The game was released on the Nintendo 3DS.
L.A. Noire, a cop investigative game originally released in 2011, was re-released November 14. The new release includes improved graphics, new downloadable content, new cinematic camera angles, and support for 4K resolution.
Pokemon: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were released on November 17. These games are set right after the previous games, Sun and Moon. The tropical region in the previous games have lost all of their light and some ultra Pokemon beasts are responsible, it’s up to the player to fix it. Critics are excited about the games longer storyline, a script twice as long as previous Pokemon games.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 was also released on November 17. In this game, the Emperor has died after the second destruction of the death star, and Iden Versio plans to enact revenge on those responsible. Popular characters such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia will make an appearance. While the story is being praised by many, the multiplayer aspect is having major glitches and issues at the moment.
The Inpatient, made by Supermassive Games (the developers of the very popular game Until Dawn), released on November 21 for Playstation VR. The game takes place in a sanatorium where you play as a patient trying to figure why they are there in the first place. The game will be especially terrifying as it is only playable through virtual reality, a truly terrifying, immersive experience.
There are so many games to choose from when it comes to a gift for Christmas, I’m excited to find out what will sell the most.
