Author Joe Cosentino interviews audiobook performer Brian Cheney at the release of the audiobook of Drama Christmas, the 11th Nicky and Noah mystery!
Joe: Hi, Brian. Welcome to our interview for the audiobook release of Drama Christmas, Nicky and Noah mystery book 11.
Brian: Thanks. I’ll don my gay apparel for the interview.
Joe: Good one. As Nicky might say, “I’m happier than a priest teaching an altar boy to genuflect” at the terrific job you did performing the audiobook of book 11 in this series.
Brian: As Nicky would say, “You flatter me. But don’t stop.”
Joe: As you know, in the 11th Nicky and Noah mystery novel cute and cozy couple (Try saying that three times fast while gargling) Nicky and Noah stage an original musical production of A Christmas Carol called Call Me Carol at Treemeadow College in cozy Vermont.
Brian: They sure make the Yuletide gay.
Joe: Before performing the audiobook, what did you like about the December holiday season?
Brian: Spending time with my family and eating all of the cookies!
Joe: Were you a fan of Charles Dickins’s A Christmas Carol?
Brian: Yes!
Joe: What do you think it is about Ebenezer Scrooge that has captivated people for so many years?
Brian: I think we can all relate to Scrooge in one way or another. Whether it’s seeing a little of him in ourselves or in a friend or family member.
Joe: You are an incredibly talented actor, singer, and audiobook performer. This is your first Nicky and Noah mystery audiobook. What were some challenges that you faced in performing this audiobook?
Brian: Thanks! I loved narrating this book so much! The biggest challenge for me was to find the right pacing with all of those wonderfully comedic one-liners. I especially enjoyed the back and forth with Nicky and Manuello!
Joe: As you know, the Nicky and Noah mysteries are loaded with humor, mystery, romance, clues, red herrings, and a shocking but happy ending (pun intended). How did you decide on the voice for each of the characters, including the hysterically funny role-play characters?
Brian: Well, you made it really easy for me Joe! Between your character descriptions and my imagination, the voices just seemed to make sense to me.
Joe: I marveled at how you performed over twenty different and entertaining voices with such perfect comic timing. Which character in the story was your favorite to voice and why?
Brian: Was it that many? WOW! My favorite character was Martin. The way you wrote for him made it so fun and easy to really go there!
Joe: Which character was the most difficult to voice and why?
Brian: I think the trickiest part was to have a slight difference in vocal timbre with the students’ voices.
Joe: Without giving away any spoilers, did you guess the twist ending before reading it?
Brian: No, but I had my suspicions!
Joe: Why should audiobook lovers buy Drama Christmas?
Brian: With a book so full of subtle (and some not so subtle) comedy, it allows the listener the opportunity to sit back and let it all wash over them, rather than having to try to interpret the pacing and flow of the jokes through reading it. I did the heavy lifting for you, so you can sit back, enjoy, and giggle!
Joe: How can audiobook fans find out more about you?
Brian: Please check out my other narrations on Audible! There are some other really great books I’ve narrated recently. You can also check out the other things I do as a performing artist on my website: briancheneytenor.com
Joe: Thank you for sharing your time and talents, Brian. I hope we have more Nicky and Noah mystery audiobook collaborations to come!
Brian: Thank you so much, Joe! I’ve loved being your narrator, and I can’t wait for the next one! Uh oh, did I just let the “Tinkerbell” out of the closet? Pun intended!!
Joe: Yes, here’s to our next joint venture—the audiobook of Drama Pan, the 12th Nicky and Noah mystery!
