Dolphin Tale is about a Dolphin named Winter who was injured by a crab trap in the ocean and is found on the beach. The tail ends up having to be removed by the Clearwater Marine Hospital staff in order to save her life. However, her fight for life isn’t over yet because she can’t survive without her tail.
The movie stars Nathan Gamble, a boy who is failing in school but finds his passion for life through helping Winter survive. They end up forming a unique bond that changes both of their lives forever. Also starring in this movie is Harry Connick Jr., who is famous for his talent in music as well as acting. He plays the Marine Biologist, Dr Clay Haskett.
The story also involves the friendship his daughter Hazel (played by Cozi Zuehlsdorff) forms with Sawyer. Through Sawyer’s cousin’s injury, he learns about Doctor Cameron McCarthy played by Morgan Freeman who works with prosthetics. He takes on the task of creating a prosthetic tail for Winter. Another story that comes into play is that Clearwater Marine Hospital is about to be bought out by someone wanting to replace it with a hotel.
Dolphin Tale is inspired by a true story and the dolphin is played by Winter herself. I always enjoy true stories because they tend to stir feelings and emotions stronger then most fictional stories do. After seeing this movie, it encourages me to research and learn more about Dolphins because they are such amazing animals worth getting to know better. What I like most about it is that Winter changes the lives of people around her bringing them hope and encouragement. I love seeing how animals and people can help each other. That is what inspired me to train my dogs to be Therapy dogs.
I definitely see this movie as being a great family film that can be enjoyed by all ages. It is more then just a movie, it is an inspirational story.
