Now, I know there are some of you out there who are already shouting out in enthusiastic agreement with this statement because, let’s be honest, you know it’s true. But for the skeptics out there, let me see if I can convince you.
There are lots of holidays to celebrate in the US and if you really dig deep there is likely something to celebrate on a daily basis. For example, did you know there is a National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day? (The next one is August 4, 2026) Or that there is a National Book Reading Day? (The next one is September 6, 2026.)
With all these options, why should Halloween take the number one place on your list of favorite holidays? Well, let me tell you.
1) Unlike other holidays when you wake up to find something has happened, on Halloween the anticipation of the day lasts all day long and well into the evening.
2) Halloween is for people of all ages. Whether you are 2 or 102 you can still dress up with pride on Halloween. Which means you can be anyone you want! Maybe you want to try out a new hair color. Or perhaps a new profession. Just dress up as your favorite serial killer and no one will bat an eyelash at you. (For the record, that was a joke and there is nothing funny about serial killers, but dressing like one can be a good time—and also, likely, scare that coworker that’s been annoying you. So win, win.)
3) Candy! What isn’t fun about fun-size Snickers or M&M’s? Nothing. Fun-sized candy is fun!
4) There are stores that magically appear each year just in time to celebrate this holiday! (I love the Spirit Halloween store! Please note this article is not sponsored by them, I’m just a fan.)
5) Halloween parties don’t just happen on Halloween. So that means more chances to dress up and more time for fun.
6) Halloween is inclusive. Anyone can celebrate!
7) Halloween does not require you to buy gifts for other people—so no stress of having to go shopping. You do have to purchase some candy, but, come on. We all know you are buying a “little extra” that you say is “just in case,” but really you’re hoping for leftovers. And who is upset about leftover Halloween candy? No one.
8) Carving pumpkins! Nothing is more fun than scooping the goopy insides of a pumpkin out and then toasting up those seeds. YUM! (I like to add mine to salads—because balance is important.)
9) And speaking of pumpkins, Halloween also kicks off Pumpkin Spice everything season. You’re welcome!
10) Halloween comes in the fall, and there is no better season than fall. This is not up for debate. It’s a fact.
So there you have it. If this list doesn’t convince you, may I suggest dressing up in a costume, eating a bunch of candy, and just allowing yourself to have some fun.
Looking for a perfect read for your Halloween season, check out Ann’s new book, A Hexcellent Chance To Fall In Love.
In this slightly spooky paranormal romance, will two women finally break their curse and get the happily ever after they’ve fought for?
Each year, when no one is paying attention, The Dead of Night Halloween store appears in a new location with its giant sign and great low prices. No one sees them setting up or tearing down—one day it’s just there and then, two days after Halloween, it’s gone.
Pepper White knows exactly how this works. For five years, ever since the last Keeper of the Store tricked her, she has been cursed—appearing when the store does, and disappearing when it goes away. People will remember The Dead of Night, but they’ll completely forget Pepper. That is, until Christina Loring walks in the door. Their chemistry is instantaneous and, for the first time in five years, Pepper finds herself wishing for more time.
But how do you tell the girl you’re falling for that you’re cursed and that you only have ten weeks together before Christina forgets . . . everything? To have a chance at happily ever after, Pepper has to do the one thing she swore she wouldn’t—find the right treat to trick someone else into taking on the curse. But all’s fair in love and spells, and this spooky season, Pepper and Christina are ready to stir up trouble in the name of love.
