Details at the end of this post on how to win a copy of Puffs of Smoke and a link to purchase the book.
This is a most unusual group of stories that will give you insights into different cultures and times. “Angelina,” the first one, is about a young girl wounded during World War II.
“Janet” is the story of a young woman spiraling through depression and mental illness. “One Smart Horse” has a surprise and sad ending. “Tony” is about a tragic happening to a young boy with a satisfying ending.
Most of the stories are slices of life about ordinary people. My favorite is the last one in the book, “The Funerals,” about two men who hate each other though they can’t remember why, and has a most ironic ending. The author has the gift of story-telling and the book is a colorful collection of her work.
