For this month’s article, we’re going to introduce you to three beautiful cats who were saved by Feral Paws Rescue from the CCSPCA (Fresno), and all three have unique stories behind them.
Trudy had been rescued as a feral kitten over a year ago, being the only healthy one of the litter. She was totally unmanageable, however, she was taken to the Rescue Veterinarian and spayed, given her vaccinations, and microchip, and was placed in a large kennel at the Rescue where she had plenty of room to grow and be comfortable. Over the many months, she became a beautiful adult Siamese (mix) cat and gradually gained the trust of her caretaker. She appreciated the human coming to feed her and clean her kennel, however, she shied away from them and wouldn’t come to the food dish until the human closed the door. Progress was made though over this time.Last month, it seems a miracle happened with Trudy. She not only was much friendlier, but she wanted her caretaker to pet her head and allowed them to pick her up. We, at the Rescue, determined it might be a good idea for Trudy to go to foster care for socializing not only with her human but also in a home setting with other cats. From the moment she was taken to her human’s place, she blended in perfectly, and it seems has made herself at home!
Raphael is an adorable nine-month-old gray and cream colored kitten who was rescued in early June. Raphael had been a stray kitten and was taken to the shelter, but he couldn’t be adopted out from there as he is “wobbly” — meaning he is unsteady on his rear legs and often falls over when walking. After going to our Rescue Veterinarian for neutering and an examination, it was determined he most likely has a form of birth defect in his rear legs. Raphael immediately went into foster care as he has special needs, and could not risk being outside. He gets along very well with his disability and immediately learned he can get on the bed by crawling up the side, and every night he is there with his human! Armani is a handsome six-year-old black and white male who was recently rescued from the shelter with no reason as to why he was surrendered except that he has “food issues” which was supposed to mean he didn’t want other cats eating “his” food. After he arrived at Feral Paws Rescue, he was put in a large kennel inside the adoption area. Armani’s “food issues” may be more like he was given way too much food in his previous home. He is a very lovable cat who seeks attention from his caretakers. Obesity in cats has been linked to various health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, kidney disease, and reduced life expectancy. Obesity in cats can cause a range of health problems due to metabolic derangements, including insulin resistance, inflammation, and abnormal appetite control. Armani gets his exercise now by jumping between the shelves in his kennel and has a better diet to control his weight. All cats deserve to live their best life and Feral Paws Rescue has a mission to save them from the shelters and give them that life, whether they remain at the Rescue or find their forever home with someone.
