Summertime is here, and with our triple-digit weather it’s time to break out those flip-flops and have some fun in the sun. There are various things to do in the World’s Fruit Basket. Here are just a few.
CATCH SOME RAYS
The Reedley Aquatics Complex, also known simply as the RHS pool, has recreational hours open to the public on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. From June 18 to August 3 at 1:30-3:15 p.m. people of all ages are encouraged to come and cool off. Also, on Friday July 13, the pool hosts a Family Night that includes a special activity: a pool party featuring a DJ and lots of other fun activities to partake in! There are also a variety of swimming lessons available to every level of swimmer, from young pollywogs to adults, and some that seniors can enjoy too! For more information visit their website to see all that they offer.
Also, come and relax at Smith’s Ferry Park and Cricket Hollow Park located on the banks of the Kings River. Barbecues, picnic tables, and restrooms are located near the site.
ENJOY SOME LIVE MUSIC
Throughout the summer Reedley’s Wakehouse, located right next to the Kings River, holds various live concerts and events, everything from local artists to BBQ cook-offs. Come enjoy food, music, and lounge around this summer. (Check out one of many articles KRL has written about Wakehouse.)
COME TO WATCH A SHOW
For those who love classics and want to stay indoors this summer, the Reedley River Theatre Company is bringing you the Broadway musical Memphis. Join the cast in a rock n’ roll adventure that explores forbidden love, showcases exuberant numbers, and the struggle to find acceptance and make it big in 1950s America. Tickets can be purchased on their website and the show will run throughout July.
Bring the family to an evening of fun with movies in the park! The Reedley Recreational Center will host these events at Pioneer Park (in front of the Police Station) and sell food and treats. The second movie in the park will be on July 20 at 8:00 p.m. Pre-movie contests start at 7:15 p.m.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Whether you want to be creative or are looking to test your patchwork skills, the Mennonite Quilt Center has many events where you can learn how to make something new, or have fun with other fellow seamsters. The center is owned and operated by the West Coast Mennonite Central Committee, which is a community of volunteers who work towards peace and world relief. Come and quilt!
Visit the Reedley Museum, which showcases the rich history of the diverse community and past of the small Central Californian town. The museum is open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For more information check out their website.
With long summer evenings coming up, it’s important to make every moment count. Be safe and have fun this summer in the community of Reedley!
