Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno shares with us every other month about their rescue dogs.

This month the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno is putting the spotlight on two really special and loving canines that have been with us for a while, mostly, we think, because they are bigger than most Labrador Retrievers. First, we have Bruce Almighty, a black male estimated to be about four years old, and eighty-eight pounds. Second, we have Lacie, a yellow male estimated to be about six years old and eighty pounds. Both are Lab mixes; Lacie is most likely with Great White Pyrenees.

Bruce Almighty

Bruce Almighty had a rather unfortunate start in life, and was found on the streets as an underweight stray. Since being with his foster at LRRF, he is loving life again, and he’s ready to find his forever family to devote his big ol’ heart to. Bruce always tries to bring a smile to his peoples’ faces, and gives great big soft doggy cuddles.

Bruce apparently didn’t have the benefit of training in his younger years, but he is very treat-and praise-motivated, which makes training easier. He knows sit, basic leash manners, and is crate-trained (with a BIG crate, of course), and mostly house-trained. He is well past that notorious Labrador puppy stage. He is simply a lower-energy, mellow guy, who loves hikes, beach trips, trips to the coffee shop, or just sweet cuddles on the couch. He gets along well with other dogs although he seems to prefer female dogs. Because he was previously deprived of food, he is best fed separately from other dogs. We do not know how he feels about cats, so Bruce’s foster is suggesting a feline-free home. Actually, Bruce is totally devoted to his people, and he would be happy as a single dog, too.

Lacie

Lacie was left along the side of a busy road out in the country, alone and completely frightened. A rescue angel drove by and saw her laying too close to the flow of traffic, completely petrified and literally glued to the spot where she was dumped. She took Lacie to her home and then contacted the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno to see if there was a foster home available for her. Luckily there was! Many times recently, dogs like Lacie have to be turned away because there are not enough foster homes available for all of the dogs that are being dumped.

Lacie is finally feeling relaxed enough to wag her tail and get excited about mealtime, and to be happily integrated into the pet family, where she has three foster fur siblings: one a Lab, one a little terrier mix, and one a dog-savvy feline. It took a while to feel accepted and loved, so the doggie smiles, tail wags, and happy wiggles make her foster mom very happy.

Lacie is a tall, beautiful girl with soft white fur and a curly tail. She is a gentle giant, a soft-tempered angel who only wants some loving and acceptance. The broken look in her eyes is disappearing as she becomes more comfortable with her new surroundings. Lacie is somewhat low energy and she sleeps often during the day. She has great leash manners but gets frightened by loud noises such as cars or rowdy people in public. Her foster mom thinks Lacie would make an excellent match with a retired couple who lives out in the country, who can spend lots of time nurturing the angel that’s inside of her, all in a quiet environment.

If you think Bruce Almighty or Lacie would fit well into your family, please visit our website at labrescuefresno.org and submit your application to adopt.

Without volunteers to foster these wonderful pets, they would literally be lost. If you are interested in joining the great group of volunteers at the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, check out our website at labrescuefresno.org for more information. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, 100% foster-based, and run completely by volunteers. We are in urgent need of more fosters at this critical time when shelters are overflowing resulting in many dogs and cats being euthanized.

If you are not in a position where you can adopt or foster, but you would still like to help, please consider making a tax-deductible donation via PayPal at our website, or by mail to Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, P. O Box 1484, Clovis, CA 93613. As you can imagine, all the veterinary care required by many of our rescues is very expensive. Of course, the rescue also provides all food and other supplies needed by our dogs in foster care, and we have an Amazon Wishlist if you would like to place an order there and it will be delivered directly to us. We greatly appreciate and need your support to continue saving pups like Bruce and Lacie.
