An undercover super secret spy for the Biloxi Bellissimo Resort and Casino, Davis Way Cole, is finding that even her stellar skills are challenged by being six months pregnant with twins. It’s a condition that is convenient for her secondary, but just as crucial, assignment as the stand-in for Bianca Casimiro Sanders. Bianca is not handling her own pregnancy gracefully, and as a result Davis will be modeling as Bianca on board the MS Probability, a luxurious half-billion-dollar yacht catering to fifty of the wealthiest gamblers in the world. While Davis’s husband Bradley is on his way to lecture in Macau, she will be spending a week with security partner, her boss, and her own mother. Mother refuses to acknowledge her own recent successful battle with breast cancer or that Davis is about to give birth to two humans, but that may be the least of the absurdities Davis will face on this trip.
Immediately after being introduced by Miss Probability Jessica DeLuna to their amazing suite, which includes a private pool, kitchen, and two servants, their technologically advanced devices lock them in with no means of communication to the outside. As they’re being held hostage by unknown takers, Davis must figure out how to escape, calm her delusional mother, and cope with a narcoleptic hostess.
This fifth book in the Davis Way Caper series delights with an ostentatiously palatial locked-room mystery. The biggest twist derives in the reactions of this collection of individuals with whom no sane person would want to be confined. It is astounding how the novel begins with ludicrous, over-the-top narcissistic personalities, and gradually transforms them into genuinely likable and sympathetic characters. Their moments of emotional depth are heart-wrenching and seamlessly blends with the continual humor and witty dialogue. Davis has the ability to absorb chaos and respond with an ingenuity that James Bond would envy. This relentlessly exciting and very funny caper novel shines with snappy banter, moving drama, and thrills of a Die Hard movie.
