Though this is number five in the Falcon’s Bend series, the authors did a good job of bringing the reader up to speed with the characters and past events.

If I had to be the one to decide what genre this is, I’d call it almost a romantic suspense even though the romance is between a married couple, Lisa and Detective Pete Shasta. Because of Lisa’s strong curiosity, she becomes involved with her new next-door neighbors, Eva and Jerome, an involvement that begins with Lisa inviting the couple to dinner.book

When Lisa learns that Eva has cancer and is in the middle of her treatments, she becomes even more curious. The fact that her husband, Jerome, doesn’t seem to care much about what’s happening with his wife disturbs Lisa, so she inserts herself into their lives.

Lisa’s husband, Pete, tries to discourage Lisa from becoming so involved, but the more she learns the more determined she is to find out the truth of what’s happening next door. When Lisa discovers that Jerome actually was married twice before to women who died of terminal illnesses, she is convinced he’s up to no good.

As the story moves along, it becomes apparent that nothing is as it seems.

If you like reading a mystery that follows a crooked path, one that will keep you guessing to the end, As Patient as Death, is one for you.

  1. As a rule, I generally have to start from the beginning of a series, but your reassurances are most tempting.
