Feral Paws Rescue Group in Fresno shares with us some of their animal rescue adventures every month. Check out KRL’s article about Feral Paws to learn more about them and check out their website.
Feral Paws Rescue regularly receives calls from the CCSPCA (Fresno) for cats they deem unadoptable or cats who are not adopted within their allowed time to be on-site. Often the cats are scared to be at the shelter so they seem unadoptable. Or maybe they’re too old or have a disability, so they’re tagged as rescue-only. Many just need more time to adjust, but Feral Paws Rescue is always there for them no matter what the reason.
Sterling is a very big, handsome gray and white shorthair cat who is now approximately five years old. He was rescued from the CCSPCA in 2021 and was adopted shortly afterward by a senior citizen. Sadly, in January 2023, he had to be returned to the Rescue due to his owner being unable to keep him any longer. He had been well fed while with that person, though, as he actually returned as an overweight cat! Due to his mellow, friendly disposition, Sterling soon found a new, forever home where he has adjusted to other cats and his new lifestyle. He loves to sleep on the bed even with other cats, and nothing fazes him much. His favorite past-time is to sit by the second floor window and watch the traffic and people below. Matthew is a gray juvenile who was saved from the CCSPCA in the early Fall of 2022. He is a very active boy with a voracious appetite and always greets the human who feeds and cares for him at the Rescue by putting his paws outside the kennel bars and dancing around inside the kennel making it nearly impossible sometimes for the person to actually put the food in his bowl! Matthew definitely has a lot of energy, is super friendly and loving! PawPaw is an adorable gray and white cat who is now eight months old and was rescued early this year from the CCSPCA. PawPaw is also totally blind. When he was surrendered, it was noted on his surrender card that he had been an outdoor cat, but we’re not sure if that was before or after that person had him. But, when PawPaw was rescued, he immediately went into foster care where he is indoors-only since it isn’t safe for a cat with no sight to be outside or even in a house that they’re not familiar with to explore and get into things they shouldn’t. PawPaw is very affectionate, loves to be held, and purrs whenever his foster parent opens his kennel and gives him attention and food, actually reaching out with his little white paws! He wants to be loved all the time! Simon is a very handsome eight year old black and white Tuxedo cat who came to the rescue from the CCSPCA this year. He has a nice wooden condo at the Rescue which he is currently sharing with a beautiful Calico. Simon would love to sneak out of the condo, though, and has tried if the door isn’t latched! He loves a lot of attention and sits in the condo looking out at the other cats around him and always greets his caretaker with lots of rubbing and purrs. Prior to being surrendered to the shelter, he had been with his previous owner since he was a kitten. It’s a big adjustment for him, but he just takes everything in stride. These cats are just four more of the precious lives saved by Feral Paws Rescue and each has their own story to tell. All lives are important to Feral Paws Rescue as they do everything possible to save them from the shelter when that call comes. Every Life Matters!
