The Lorax is based on Dr Seuss’ book also entitled The Lorax written in 1971. Ted, a young boy from the town of Thneedsville where everything is artificial, even the trees and the grass, likes a girl named Audrey. Audrey dreams of someday having a real tree so Ted sets out to find one. His Grandma tells Ted about a man named Once-ler who lives outside of the town. Once-ler tells him what happened to the trees and how it was all his fault because he cut down the trees to make an invention called Thneeds.

The Lorax is the voice for the trees and tried to stop him but Once-ler gets too greedy and ends up cutting down even the very last Truffela tree. Without the trees, the air becomes very bad and the character O’ Hare sees the lack of clean air as a chance to become rich by selling clean air, and later he tries to stop Ted from learning about the trees. But Ted discovers that the town needs trees and tries to plant the very last Truffela seed. The Lorax has a lot of well known actors and actresses playing many of the voices like Zac Efron, Danny Devito, and Taylor Swift.

The Lorax was a fun movie with a clear message throughout about the importance of trees to our environment and this message was also in the book and not just added to the movie. I am always amazed with a movie that has such crisp and detailed animation. This is always a detail I enjoy in animated movies, and there has been so much advancement in technology over the years that they seem to continue to improve with each movie.

I always have to see any movie that is based on Dr. Seuss books. His books are fun for all ages and are so unique. You can’t compare Dr. Seuss books to any other books out there. I am glad that they have made so many of them into movies over the years.

The Lorax is now playing at Dinuba Platinum Theatres 6. Showtimes can be found on their website.
