Families! Every child grows up in a different one, even with the same parents at the same address. Take brothers and sisters, six of them scattered, one snowy Wisconsin December, and their father’s funeral, gather them in and dramedy will follow. In this household, sailing and the law combine with Hagar the Horrible, war, peace and The Energizer Bunny. Argument was Dad’s favorite sport and his oldest daughter was his designated sparring partner. And she’s been assigned to deliver a eulogy. “Something nice,” says her sister. But Kathleen doesn’t do nice.

Just about anyone who ever grew up in a family will recognize something or someone in The Pieces, written and performed by Kathleen Denny.

Kathleen grew up just outside of Milwaukee, surrounded by farmland. Her mother used to tell her, “You always have to be so dramatic!” Kathleen went to work as a union machinist and airframe mechanic: one of the rare women on the job. The only one of her brothers and sisters who knows how to use their great grandfather’s micrometers, she can hold a close tolerance. The Pieces is her first solo performance project and audiences at Monday Night Marsh in San Francisco have enjoyed excerpts. Kathleen is happy to join Fresno Rogue Festival – her very first fringe adventure.
