Piper Prescott is attracted to Sheriff Wyatt McBride. They got off on the wrong foot in previous encounters, but the last year has shown some promise. At least until Wyatt was spotted having dinner or sharing chili cheese fries with the town’s leading realtor, Shirley Randolph. Rumors are flying that the two are an intimate couple, putting a damper on any hope of a relationship for Piper.
When Shirley’s body is found floating in a fishing hole on Wyatt’s property (Nude!), the rumor mill ramps up to say: 1) it was a suicide after a lover’s quarrel, 2) Wyatt killed her, 3) it was an accident. Piper chooses none of the above. She believes 4) it’s murder.
With her BFF, Reba Mae, and a little help from Wyatt while he’s suspended (thanks to Piper’s ex-husband), they dig into Shirley’s background. She mentored, Vicki, another realtor, but also stole a huge commission. There’s a mysterious stranger in town, too. He wants to look at properties but has such a list of must-haves, nothing suits him.
Shirley lives in a huge house that was under renovation. The repairs and remodeling suddenly stopped, but no one knows why. It couldn’t be that she’s short of money. Since she only wanted the best of everything, there has to be another reason. Somebody doesn’t like Piper asking questions. Her shop is broken into, and she has a close call herself. It must mean she’s getting close to the truth.
This is book eight in the enjoyable series. It’s a pleasure to see characters older than thirty who are vibrant, interesting, and looking for a relationship while taking charge of life. Piper has a high-school age daughter, an ex-husband, his annoying new wife, friends, and a successful business. Her potential relationship with Wyatt has possibilities.
Look for fun facts about ginger plus recipes for poppy seed salad dressing, ginger and lime marinade, Hungarian goulash, and Italian wedding cookies at the back of the book.

Thank you for reviewing this book. I love it too when the characters are over 30. I can relate better to their lives. I hope this book can be read as a stand-alone since it’s pretty far into the series at book #8.
