Enjoy Thanksgiving by taking a trip with Kathi Daley, drinking wine with Christine E. Blum and Ellen Crosby, and munching scones for dessert with Ellery Adams. On Black Friday head to bookstores with Ellery Adams and Vicki Delany. Plus a preview of other titles coming out this month.
Kathi Daley honors the holiday with The Thanksgiving Trip, fifth in the Tess and Tilly Cozy Mysteries. Every autumn Tess’ father went to a mountain cabin to hunt and fish. After his supposed death in a fiery truck accident, the Thomas family goes to the cabin for Thanksgiving. Tess and Tony team up to investigate the death and talk to people who live in the area, hoping to find her dad’s current whereabouts.
In the third book of the Rose Avenue Wine Club, Annie “Halsey” Hall is enjoying her laid-back life in Southern California. That is until the crash of a small plane leads a detective to her best friend’s home with a package of illegal drugs found on the plane. When a mechanic who works at the airport is found murdered, the club springs into action to save one of their own. Name of the Rose is Christine E. Blum’s latest.
Across the country in Atoka, Virginia, it’s harvest time at Montgomery Estate Vineyard. Two incidents jar Lucie Montgomery: the discovery of a skull in the family cemetery and the arrival of Lucie’s crush from twenty years ago when she spent the summer in France. He’s now the head winemaker at a neighboring vineyard. That is until he’s found dead and suspicion falls on an immigrant worker who had a quarrel with him. The man runs away, causing her immigrant workers threatening to stop working until he’s found. While she searches, she’s also trying to find out the identity of the skull. A decades old secret is uncovered which may change everything she knew about her family. Harvest of Secrets is Ellen Crosby’s ninth Wine County Mystery.
Although we all love bookstores, they’re proving to be dangerous places.
In Miracle Springs, North Carolina, Nora Pennington owns Miracle Books and is part of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society. When a girl wearing a hospital ID and bruises is found hiding in the bookstore, the group is ready to help. But a customer is found dead and Nora find a connection that points to the young woman. Not ready to judge a book by its cover, Nora keeps an eye on a new entrepreneur in the small town. When a second corpse turns up, the group decides to help the greenhorn sheriff solve the case. The Whispered Word is the second in the series by Ellery Adams.
Vicki Delany brings us her fourth Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mystery, A Scandal in Scarlet. While walking her dog Violet late one night, Gemma Doyle smells smoke outside the West London Museum in Cape Cod. No one is inside, but it’s too late to save the museum’s collection and damage is extensive. Baker Street’s shop owners hold an auction tea to raise funds to rebuild, and Great Uncle Arthur Doyle offers a signed first edition of The Valley of Fear. But before the event begins, the museum board chair is found dead with a rope of decorative tea cups tied around her neck. Does the death have anything to do with a death seven years ago?
