All the Little Liars: Aurora Teagarden Series by Charlaine Harris
Review by Sandra Murphy
Aurora Teagarden has remarried and is happier than she ever imagined. Crime-writer Robin Crusoe is the lucky groom. His work commute is a matter of feet to the study, hers just to the library in town. Aurora’s half-brother, Phillip, is staying with them for a while after discovering his father in a compromising position and his mother leaving for parts unknown. Aurora and Robin have only been married a few weeks but find having Phillip around isn’t an intrusion.
The other news is, Aurora’s pregnant. She’s happy about the news but not so much about the morning sickness. It’s Christmas time as well, so there’s a lot to do and little energy to do it.
When Phillip doesn’t come home for dinner as usual, Aurora does what any parent would do; she calls his friends, the twins. They’re not home either. Aurora and Robin trace the route the kids would have taken but find nothing. It’s an added shock to find out the teens had offered a ride to an eleven-year old friend so now four kids are not answering cell phones.
Aurora finally has to call her father to say Phillip is missing. Her dad is an oaf and immediately blames her. Then he shows up and blusters his way into staying with Aurora. Mostly, he gets in the way and never helps.
The body of a young girl is found behind the beauty shop, hidden by a dumpster. She’s the victim of a hit and run. All the teens were last seen at the soccer field so Aurora begins to ask questions. When she finds another teen is missing and there was a ransom demand for him, she has to wonder, why haven’t all the parents received a demand?
As always, Harris writes a compelling story, full of what-ifs and maybes. Readers will be glad to see more of Aurora and her life with Robin and the baby. She’s a sensible woman who loves her life and family and one who is willing to take a risk to protect them.
This is book nine in the Aurora Teagarden series which can be read out of order, but be warned, you’ll want to read all nine. Harris also wrote five Lily Bard mysteries, four Harper Connelly tales and of course, the fourteen Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood novels. We can only hope that Lily and Harper will return as well.
Behind the Book interview with Charlaine Harris
KRL: After such a long absence, readers will be happy to catch up with Aurora again, especially now that she’s pregnant. How many more books can readers expect in this series?
Charlaine: At least two. It’s possible I’ll write more, if the two new ones do well.
KRL: How will a baby affect her future investigations?
Charlaine: Obviously, Roe now has to think about that very seriously. The baby is number one. She’ll never do anything to endanger that baby.
KRL: Will Phillip continue to live with Aurora?
Charlaine: Yes, at least for the next two books!
KRL: Any chance Harper Connelly and Lily Bard will return?
Charlaine: Probably not, in the case of Lily. I would not mind writing another Harper if my publisher is interested and I have a great idea for her.
KRL: Is Aurora going to stay with her job at the library? Now that her friend is hired there too, will they come across a mystery there?
Charlaine: Aurora is taking a leave of absence from her job so she can revel in motherhood.
KRL: How many movies are in the works for Aurora?
Charlaine: If the movies do well for Hallmark, I suppose they’ll film the whole series. Of course, Candace has a lot on her plate right now and scheduling the time for a shoot is tricky.
KRL: What other books do you have in the works right now?
Charlaine: I have a big secret project!
KRL: Did I hear that your newest series is being picked up for television? If so, what is the latest on that?
Charlaine: Yes, the Midnight books will be a series on NBC. They are filming now. It should be on in January or February.
KRL: Where can we find you online?
Charlaine: I have a very active page on Facebook, and I have a great website, www.charlaineharris.com.
