Minerva “Minnie” Hamilton loves being Chilson District Library’s bookmobile librarian, but as the interim director she’s working sixty to seventy hour a week with little time to focus on the job she truly adores. Minnie’s stress levels aren’t lessened one bit when she discovers a body in the library stacks, one quickly identified as Andrea Vennard. In town for her great-aunt’s funeral, the murder seems to trigger a series of acts of vandalism and break-ins around the town, starting with Minnie’s beloved library. And as much as Chilson Deputy Ash Wolverson might want to help his girlfriend, his being trained as a detective mostly sidelines into an observing role.
Minnie attempts to resume her beloved bookmobile trips around the small town, but she faces not a little pressure from her coworkers who want her to apply as library director. Although the position would cost her the ability to drive the bookmobile, a new director could shake up operations and possibly ban the bookmobile cat Eddie from the premises. Minnie is attempting to take an optimistic viewpoint, but Eddie doesn’t help matters by coughing up all over an applicant’s shoe. He’s not alone in making bad impressions, as in the presence of Ash’s beautiful and intimidatingly competent mother Minnie loses all social skills as well as the ability to form a cognitive sentence.
The joy of this fifth book in the Bookmobile Cats Mystery series comes from visiting Chilson and meeting all of its quirky but delightful residents. Minnie’s cordially hard-drinking and fishing houseboat neighbors are always willing to lend unasked opinions, while everyone is interested in the state of Minnie and Ash’s relationship. Minnie’s bed-and-breakfast owning aunt seems distracted from her usual matchmaking of the guests, although she’s maintaining her successful track record. Minnie’s best friend Kristin is neurotically prepping her Three Seasons restaurant for a television appearance, and dinner with two new artist friends may give Minnie just the information she didn’t know she needed. This is such a warm and comforting read that fans will eagerly welcome the next adventures of Minnie and her bookmobile cat Eddie.

Love cats that are featured in cozies.
I love these kind of boys. A nice cozy to curl up with.
I hadn’t yet discovered this series, so thanks for this review. I love cozies, but they need to be unique in some way for me–not the usual “heroine owns/inherits business in which she trips over a dead body and must solve the crime.” This fits the bill with the bookmobile slant and cat!
“Cat with a Clue” by Laurie Cass is a great addition to the bookmobile series. Enjoy books including cats in the storyline, they add so much to a story.
