Three new Aurora Teagarden Mysteries (A Game Of Cat And Mouse, An Inheritance To Die For, and A Very Foul Play) recently aired on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel Sunday night schedule. Cameron Candace Bure returns as librarian and true crime buff Aurora “Roe” Teagarden and Niall Matter, a Hallmark movie regular, portrays Professor Nick Miller, Aurora’s new love interest.
A Game of Cat and Mouse was first to interest fans. When someone starts to taunt Aurora with old crime scene photos at new crime scenes, she knows she is dealing with a dangerous person who is building towards committing a murder. The new crimes involve her family and friends. Her mother’s (Marilu Henner) office is broken into, her laptop is stolen, and the room ransacked. Next, her co-worker’s car is stolen at the library, and her mother’s laptop is left behind. Then, Aurora’s best friend Sally Allison (Lexa Doig) is attacked in Aurora’s driveway and ends up in the hospital. As the crimes continue, evidence mounts up that ties them to Aurora’s new romantic relationship with Nick Miller. Who is behind the threats? Can Aurora figure out the clues in time to prevent another murder?
The second new movie, An Inheritance To Die For, has Aurora working to solve the poisoning of her best friend Sally Allison’s wealthy aunt at a family wedding. Aurora is determined to get to the bottom of the investigation because in a surprise move, her mother inherits the bulk of the woman’s vast estate. Who did the deed? Was it the woman’s companion, the spoiled rotten son who expected to inherit everything or someone else?
The third new movie, A Very Foul Play, has Aurora and her friends from The Real Murders Club attending a real crime mystery conference. While there, they consent to appear in a staged fun murder mystery. While on the stage in the middle of the first act, the lights unexpectedly go out and a real murder is committed on stage in front of everyone. Aurora’s nephew Philip becomes the prime suspect when he is found holding a bloody real knife instead of his stage prop one. Aurora is determined to find out the truth along with Police Chief Lynn Smith (Miranda Frigon) and husband Detective Arthur Smith (Peter Benson) who are eager to help, but out of their jurisdiction. Was it the murder victim’s rich boyfriend, his father, or someone else who did the deed?
All three movies were excellently done. The actors brought everything to life in a most convincing manner, and they worked well together. The murder plots were well thought out, and I loved how they were all resolved with very surprising endings. Hallmark has outdone themselves with these new additions to their lineup. They are also promising a new movie every Sunday night for the next few months. This is wonderful family entertainment that I highly recommend to everyone.
