Ten Devilish Tales of Crime and Deception is a good start on describing this book of short stories. The characters are pleasant, unassuming people quietly carrying on with their lives. They rarely register in your daily life, but it’s the “Quiet Ones” you should watch out for because everyone is someone, and they all have an agenda.

“Superstition” tells the tale of a woman who realizes that it’s time to live every day like it’s her last one. What omens lead her to this decision?

“The Chicken Pot Pie Fiasco” gives us the story of the hazards of preparing Thanksgiving Dinner while distracted. Too many cooks in the kitchen make for a unique holiday dinner, with a twist!

“The Space Heater vs. the Window Fan,” we all talk to inanimate things every day without even thinking about it. What happens when they start answering us back? A tale that will make you laugh but will also make you rethink what you know about machines!

“Waffling on Cherokee Street” is the tale of what happens to Bernice when she and her husband, Ken, take their dog, Ozzie, to the groomers. Bernice decides to check out the shops around the groomers and finds a new shop specializing in beads, her favorite hobby. Bead shopping done, Bernice and Ken head to a waffle place for lunch. Waiting for Ken to bring the car around, Bernice and Ozzie are attacked by a purse snatcher. What has Bernice’s little shopping jaunt got her into?

“From Hay to Eternity” tells the fateful story of Fred and his organic vegetable farm. Fred’s son, Darren, was happy to work the farm, but Todd only wanted to sell it. As Darren conducts a Family Fun Factor hayride, Todd is busy taking photos of his scantily clad girlfriend for her modeling portfolio. The ride concludes in unexpected circumstances that change the family dynamics forever.

“Deirdre and the Diamonds” is a tale about stolen diamonds being stolen again. Meet Deidre, Mavis, and Jake as they work to save the diamonds, keep each other safe, and catch the bad guys! A heist with lots of twists and turns that make this a compelling read!

“Bananas Foster” gives us the story of Bernice and her work as a Pink Lady at the local hospital. When a patient confides in Bernice that his son-in-law won’t let his daughter visit him in hospice because it would upset her, and when Bernice learns that the man has both a mistress and a girlfriend, she works out a totally unique plan to put the philanderer out of business. Another tale involving the lovable Bernice and her husband, Ken!

“The Perfect Bite” is the tale of Bert and Sol’s dining experience at a very exclusive and upscale restaurant that offers a very special menu! Dining out will never be the same!

“Blue Moon” introduces us to Bob, an eccentric inventor who survives by doing odd jobs and traveling from farm to farm tutoring children how to read and write. When he meets a lovely widow with two young boys, Bob knows he has found his future. Securing it is another thing, but he soon works a devilish plot to bring it all about!

“Sweet Tea and Deviled Eggs” is the story of a young girl with a drunk for a father and a mother who is unwell. Read what she does to make a better life!

This collection of short stories made for ten adventures, each one entertaining and unique! The characters each had enough development to be realistic, and each one of the stories had so many twists and turns that you were kept guessing all the way to the conclusion. Put this book on your reading list for a night of entertaining adventures!
