The year of 1977 was a magical year for me. It was filled with fun family times, foods, and celebrations, including my seventh birthday on July 7. From what I remember, the weather was pretty mild that autumn through December, and Lake Erie hadn’t frozen over. What that meant was that when a cold north wind blew over the lake, it often brought Lake Effect snow.

I grew up watching the movie version of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and still watch it every once in awhile-it was always a holiday favorite in my family. It is a fun Christmas musical with great songs, a sweet story, and a great cast, which includes Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. This past weekend the stage version of the musical opened at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia and it did not disappoint.

This has been a great year for theatre in the Valley! I’ve been blessed to have had the chance to enjoy a great deal of it, and KRL has reviewed and previewed even more—from the more serious thought provoking plays produced by new company The New Ensemble, to fun musicals like Grease at Reedley River City and the Valley premiere of Legally Blonde at Roger Rocka’s.

No we didn’t have snow in Reedley, but White Christmas is on stage at the Reedley Opera House, presented by the Reedley River City Theatre Company and I had the pleasure of seeing it this past weekend.
