War Horse: Movie Review

In 1982, Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse was published in Great Britain, becoming a deeply loved horse story to rival Anna Sewell’s nineteenth-century Black Beauty. Later, one American girl read it and begged her father to make a movie of it. Her father was Steven Spielberg. He saw a stage production based on the book, was impressed, and he made that movie.

One of the first children's novels I read when I was eight years old was Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. At that age, I thought it was a neat story about a horse. I did not know that it was not meant as a children's book about a horse, but as a Victorian plea for the humane treatment of horses and humans. Generations read and cried over that book.

War Horse: Tony Nominated Show Review

With the Tony Awards upon us this Sunday we have the great treat of being able to enjoy a review of one of the Tony Award nominated shows thanks to KRL's writer in New York. While only our New York readers will have the chance to see this show for now, hopefully many of us will be able to enjoy it sometime in the future and now we can enjoy the Tony Awards with just a bit more knowledge of one of the great plays that is nominated.
