8 is a docudrama depicting both sides of the controversial issue of same-sex marriage. Using transcripts from the trial in Federal District Court and interviews with those involved including the plaintiffs, Dustin Lance Black chronicles the fight for marriage equality, which began when the American Federation for Equal Rights (AFER) challenged the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8.

Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney had no idea that their actions, rooted in ignorant fear, would cause a community to unravel and send waves of shock and disbelief across a nation. The Laramie Project is a docu-drama created by the Tectonic Theater Project in search of answers. Why was Matthew Shepard savagely attacked? Was Laramie, WY a town filled with hate? What could have been done to prevent the actions of Henderson and McKinney?

If you're looking for a fun, and very funny, night at the theatre you should head over to the Ice House in Visalia and check out The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
I had the pleasure of following this show behind the scenes for several weeks from beginning to end doing a series of videos and video interviews. It was a lot of fun, I learned a lot I didn't know, and it reminded me just how much work goes into putting a show together. All that hard work definitely paid off.

Get ready for a romp down memory lane with the Visalia Players’ musical season opener The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Six spellers, adults playing youngsters, arrive at the national contest overseen by Rona Lisa Peretti (Ali Malingen). Rona’s helpers are Douglas Panch (Sean Hopper) the “word giver” and Mitch Mahoney (Cristian Duran) the “comfort counselor.”

As Kings River Life continues to follow the Visalia Community Players production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee musical, for week seven we are talking with set builder Louis Emery and another of the cast members, Henry Gonzales. Opening night keeps inching closer but we still have more great interviews coming your way including Stage Manager, more cast, band members & touching base again with the directors.
