The Cat House on the Kings: Spring Open House, World Wide Notoriety, Rescues, & Updates

by Jackie Dale

In the blink of an eye the Spring Open House Fundraiser will be upon us. It has been scheduled for Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. We are desperately seeking volunteers and more importantly, donations for the silent auction. The silent auction is our big money maker and donations are slow thus far. We like to have the bulk of the donations by Friday, April 15. We can use just about anything including but not limited to handcrafted items, artwork, jewelry, purses, gift certificates for goods or services, home decor and pet-related items.

Next weekend (Saturday, November 7) is our Fall Holiday Open House Fundraiser. I hope to see you there. It has been quite busy at The Cat House. Along with all the preparations for the open house, we have taken in a record number of cats, kittens, and dogs. The Cat House just took in 14 dogs from a breeder who passed away: 12 Pomeranians and two pregnant Schnauzers. Funds are getting very tight, and this fundraiser will help pay the bills for the next six months. Please, please, please come and support us at this awesome event. Saturday, November 7, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

The Cat House on the Kings: My Hero Cat, Selma Sagas, TNR Debate, Amazing Cat Rescue

by Jackie Dale

I am going to start this column with the story of my hero cat, Big Fat Mannie. I live in the country on one and a third fenced-in acres. Despite the fence, we get the occasional critter coming through. On this particular day, I was in the backyard, filling the water bucket and refilling the hummingbird feeder. I left the house and about an hour later received a text from my husband that Big Fat Mannie (he weighs 18 sturdy pounds) had saved his life by warning him about an imminent danger. Then he sent me a picture of a four foot long diamondback rattlesnake.

July has been a hot and busy month. As my Selma kitties have slowly returned, I noticed that they’re beginning to do some kind of construction on the adjacent vacant property. They are ripping out concrete and removing trees and brush. I’m worried that they will tear down the bushes where my cats live. I am already scouting out the area to the rear of the store. Should the bushes go, the cats would have to move.

The Cat House on the Kings: More TNR & A Bridge Rescue

My Selma colony continues to challenge and mystify me. I haven’t seen the original ginger mom cat or her older daughter at all since they all disappeared together. Her son, “Lil’ Boy,” has been around a couple of times. I see her children, the tortie mom whose kittens are tearing through my house like little tiny furry tornadoes. Much to my chagrin, her sister has shown up with two kittens that look very much like her sister’s three. I have been unable to catch the kittens thus far. Unlike the ones I captured earlier, these two are very wary of humans and will have to be trapped. And even more chagrin: there is a new cat there, a large classic tabby.

I would like to thank everyone who came out to our Spring Open House fundraiser on May 2. From near and far you came to help make this event tremendously successful. Through your continued support, you enable Lynea and The Cat House to continue to care for its many residents. Thanks to your generosity, The Cat House is able to step up when unfortunate circumstances occur.
