It’s Scottie Play Time

A beautiful wheaten Scottie, Bailee, is a big boy at about thirty pounds. He has had a rough time, but has a lot of love and companionship to give to the right forever home. His original owner was an older man who had an accident and could no longer take care of Bailee. Instead of calling Scottie Rescue, Bailee was sent to a North Carolina shelter. He became stressed at losing his home and being dragged off by a stranger, so he bit the animal control officer.
Scotties Rock is a 501c3 charity with an international reach whose mission is to provide financial support to Scottie people who meet certain guidelines and are unable to pay their Scottie’s vet bills for sickness or injury. The foundation is dedicated to full transparency and protecting the privacy of applicants.
Fannie at three and Farley at five were two beautiful Scotties that were living the good life. They lived with a couple who doted on them and even after the wife developed some health problems, her husband was able to walk and exercise them. Then the husband died rather suddenly and the wife was left with the difficult decision of what was best for Fannie and Farley.
I once heard a Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show announcer say, as the Scotties pranced proudly into the show ring, “The Scottish terrier is the only breed of dog that knows he is smarter than his master.” I found out why. My Scottish terrier therapy dog, McDuff, proved it time after time with his off-the-chart intelligence and you-won’t- believe stubbornness that outsmarted and frustrated me to tears.
McDuff is a Scottish Terrier who came to the author, Judy McFadden, as a puppy. There is nothing as cute as a Scottie puppy; all head, eyes dancing with mischief, they steal hearts in an instant. The book chronicles McDuff’s the road from puppyhood to becoming a certified therapy dog, a path that is not common for Scotties, with a lot of emphasis along the way on the author’s personal struggles.
