Last night my son and I were able to sit in on part of a tech rehearsal for the California Public Theater production of Rent that opens tomorrow night. Since the show only has two performances I didn’t want to wait until it opened to write about it, so they were kind enough to let us sit in.

This has been a great year for theatre in the Valley! I’ve been blessed to have had the chance to enjoy a great deal of it, and KRL has reviewed and previewed even more—from the more serious thought provoking plays produced by new company The New Ensemble, to fun musicals like Grease at Reedley River City and the Valley premiere of Legally Blonde at Roger Rocka’s.

After months of preparation, Rent finally hits the stage in Visalia on Friday, July 22. This will not only be a great show, but also a fundraiser for local HIV/AIDS charities.

The first local production of Rent in the Valley will be upon us in less than a month, as they open on July 22 at the Main Street Theater in downtown Visalia. The show is being produced by the Fourth Wall Theatre Company and has a special twist of also being a fundraiser for local HIV/AIDS programs.

The first local production of Rent to hit the Valley will be taking place this July in Visalia. A special twist on this production is that it will also be an HIV/AIDS fundraiser. The idea to do Rent grew out of a casual conversation director Corey Ralston had with his student co-director. “This has been one of my favorite musicals for a while and when I found out the rights were available the process just got rolling.”
