It’s summertime in Reedley, time for the River City Theatre Company to trot out another edition of their Legends series. This year, it’s Legends: Icons, where a group of 10 performers honor famous singers and groups, with some sweet touches of humor added to spice up the tributes.

Long, long ago, in a gas station far, far away, you drove up to the pump and a bell rang. A squad of smartly uniformed young men scurried out, and the work commenced. They pumped your gas, checked your water and oil, washed and squeegeed your windshield, and checked the air in your tires, while you relaxed in your car. You didn’t have to lift a finger.

Another wonderful year of Valley theatre is behind us, and it is time again to take a look back. 2016 was filled with Valley premieres, musical classics, and amazing performances–too many to mention them all, but here are a few.

The musical West Side Story opened last weekend at the Reedley Opera House, presented by Reedley’s River City Theatre Co. This cast has the distinction of being made up primarily of high school and college students, making them closer to the actual age of the characters they are playing, giving this show an extra bit of realism.

Reedley’s River City Theatre Co. has been doing Legends shows for a few years now. What started as a novel idea that could have just been a one time thing, has blossomed into a yearly event for RCTC and for good reason! Local performers take the stage performing as some of the big musical Legends, and sometimes comedy ones, of the last few decades and it’s always a lot of fun.

This year Reedley’s River City Theatre Company is celebrating their 10th anniversary and bringing back some of their earlier shows. One of those shows is a play entitled The Valentine, which opens this week at the Reedley Opera House.
