If you want to drive to Palm Springs, you will see a highway sign for “Indio - Other Desert Cities.” If you want to see intense family drama with sly comedy, got to the Fresno Art Museum’s Bonner Auditorium for StageWorks Fresno’s production of Other Desert Cities.
Other Desert Cities, by Jon Robin Baitz, premiered on Broadway in November 2011. A finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize, the story revolves around a family and the disruptive quality of family secrets. Director, Donny Graham, saw the play at the Ahmanson Theatre and was immediately infatuated. His production is now playing at the Ice House Theatre.
All families have secrets. Rich and famous families have bigger secrets. In Other Desert Cities, a play by Jon Robin Baitz now performed at Stage 3 in Sonoma, the Wyeth family has some doozies.
