The 5th Wave Review: Energy Crisis, Tsunamis and…Aliens?

The 5th Wave is the latest in dystopian science fiction thrillers that originally began as a young adult book series. What sets it apart from its compatriots is the method by which society falls apart. Playing off today's fears of disease, climate change and failing infrastructure in a way that is both relatable and chilling, the invading aliens responsible for the destruction come as a mere afterthought as the chaos and drama unfolds.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Rest assured.Star Wars: The Force Awakens was made for those of us who loved the original Star Wars Trilogy but prefer to pretend the Prequels never existed. Almost more of a soft reboot than a continuation (which it is, taking place thirty years after the events of Return of the Jedi), J.J. Abrams plays homage to everything we loved about the first movies without hitting us over the head with the references (as he frequently did in Star Trek Into the Darkness).

Spectre: Movie Review

Sam Mendes (American Beauty), who also directed 2012's Skyfall, does a wonderful job with the opening scene. The Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) parade through the City of Mexico is nothing short of dazzling. The energy and palpable power that Daniel Craig exudes is exactly as a Bond movie should be. Even the opening credits, replete with the Octopus' smoky dark ink swirling about as the feminine forms' hair, are ingenious cinematic art.

Hotel Transylvania 2: Movie Review

Hotel Transylvania 2 starts a couple years or more after the first movie. Johnny and Mavis (Count Dracula's daughter) are married and have their first child, Dennis. Drac (as they refer to him in the movie) has changed his mind about humans and has opened up the hotel to allow humans as well as monsters to stay there and Johnny, his son in law, works at the hotel as well.
